Selston FC Home

Welcome to the Selston Football Club website.
Selston FC was formed in 1968 and for many years operated a men’s senior side only. However in latter years we have developed into a community club operating various senior and youth sides on Saturdays and Sundays.
The 2008-9 season sees us with 8 teams in total (6 junior & 2 senior) – see the links on the left for more details on each team.
Selston FC aims to provide a safe and fun environment for young people to learn to play football and opportunities for local people to play football at a local venue.
The club is currently working towards becoming an FA Charter Standard club.

A Brief History
The club was formed in 1968 and played it’s early football in the Alfreton & District Sunday League, of which they were a founder member.
For the 1977-78 Season, their attention turned to the Nottinghamshire Sunday football league in which they finished runners-up in division three of the premier section in their first season.
A period of time was spent in the different local leagues, but in the late 80’s with the ambition to progress, the club decided to concentrate on Saturday football and joined the Central Midlands Football League. In the season 1990-91 the first team won the C.M.L Division One Cup.
In the meantime the club had taken on board their first junior sides, operating initially in the Rowsley & District Youth League, but shortly afterwards in the Derby City Youth League, Mansfield Youth League and in the late 90’s the Notts Imperial Youth League.
The 1993-94 season saw the senior side playing in the Midlands Regional Alliance and winning the division one title.
The club returned to the Central Midlands Football League in the 1997-98 season with first, reserves and ‘A’ teams competing.
1998-99 Season saw the senior side promoted to the Supreme Division, and they also reached the final of the Wakefield Floodlit Cup. They were also voted most sporting in the Premier division and won the program of the year award.
The 1999-2000 season saw the side finish mid-table and once again reach the final of the Wakefield Floodlit Cup. During this season the reserves won the Reserves League Cup. This season proved to be and still remains the pinnacle of Selston’s footballing achievements at senior level, although 2000-01 saw all three senior sides finish in the top half in their respective divisions.
At the end of season 2002-03 the reserve team were relegated and the first team disbanded. A very difficult decision was made at the end of 2003-04 season to dispense with senior football and concentrate on the development of youth football and build on the success throughout the 90’s that the junior sides had started to bring to Selston Football Club.
Season 2005-06 saw Selston Football Club move back into their rightful home of the Parish Ground, with some promising football coming from four junior sides with great potential.
Season 2005-06 saw the promotion to division one football for the U10’s and U13’s in the Mansfield Youth League, but unfortunately both teams were relegated the following season.
Season 2006-07 saw senior football return to Selston FCwith a Saturday sidecompeting in the Belfield Midlands Regional Alliance and a Sunday team starting in the Mansfield League, both proving to have reasonable success in their respective divisions.
Season 2007-08 saw SFC progress again, the Saturday senior side romped home in division 2 of the MRA finishing 13 points clear of second place. They also won the MRA league cup, trouncing MRA division 1 champs 8-2 and the Notts junior cup. The Sunday seniors fell away after a great start to finish 3rd in their league. The Saturday under 15's finished 5th in their division, creditably finishing third highest scorers in both the under 15's divisions. The Sunday under 15's in their first season finished in the lower reaches of the division scoring enough goals to secure safety. The Under 11's side finished third in division 2, just 6 points off the top spot, narrowly missing out on challenging for the title thanks to a slow start to the season. The under 9's in their first season of football failed to win a game in the league competition but progressed demonstrably - notably finishing fourth in the 'plate' competition winning 6 games along the way.
The 2008 - 09 season promises to be another cracker, with much promise in the existing teams and two new additions an under 15's Saturday (formerly Bagthorpe Athletic's under 14's) and a brand new under 10's on Sunday.
Roll on the season!!
